Community Improvement Program : Project Costa Rica Summer Community Service Program

Community Improvement Program

Community Improvement ProgramThis project will focus on improving the local elementary schools. With a literacy rate of 96%, Costa Ricans take their children’s education very seriously. This project is a great opportunity to improve local elementary schools in several meaningful ways. Our volunteers will work on various projects during the program and every project we are asked to do will help bring a sense of pride to the local children and residents in their schools. We will be asked to paint murals on the schools’ walls, plant eco-friendly gardens to produce fresh produce for the school children, build playgrounds, or plant new flowers and shrubs to beautify the schools’ grounds. Some time may also be spent playing soccer and games with the school children. This is a great opportunity to leave a lasting impact on the children of La Fortuna.

  • Community Service participants volunteer with the same project for the length of the program, in order to fully realize the importance of their projects from beginning to end.
  • Participants volunteer Monday – Friday, four hours per day, for the duration of the program, earning 40 hours of Community Service credit.
  • The goal of Project Costa Rica is not only to give back to the La Fortuna-area community but also for our participants to learn and grow through their experiences.
