Community Improvement Program : Project Costa Rica Summer Community Service Program

Community Improvement Program

Community Improvement ProgramHelp improve the local area by choosing one of two projects. The first project finds us working with local elementary schools to help improve their buildings and properties. Projects at the schools will include painting murals on the schools’ walls, planting an eco-friendly garden, sprucing up the playground, and planting new flowers and shrubs to beautify the grounds. Every project we are asked to do will help bring a sense of pride to the local children and residents in their schools. Our other project will help the local community center, which serves the people of La Fortuna by offering family-friendly events in a safe environment and operating a soup-kitchen for underprivileged and malnourished children. We will paint buildings on the property, improve the center’s soccer field, and plant new flowers and shrubs to beautify the grounds. Some time will also be spent helping in the soup kitchen and participating in the center’s food program. This is your chance to leave a lasting impact on so many people throughout the La Fortuna area.

  • Community Service participants volunteer with the same project for the length of the program, in order to realize the importance of their projects from beginning to end.
  • Participants volunteer Monday – Friday, four hours per day, for the duration of the program, earning 60 hours of Community Service credit.
  • The goal of Project Costa Rica is not only to give back to the La Fortuna-area community but also for our participants to learn and grow through their experiences.
