There is no better place to pursue your love of the environment than in Costa Rica, a country known for its passion for preserving its eco-systems and natural landscapes. Our volunteers will work closely with a local engineer to help reverse the damage done by deforestation, the practice of destroying the local rainforest for purposes such as cattle grazing, logging, and development. We will help reinvigorate the rainforest through activities such as seed, soil, and compost collection and preparation, nursery planting and maintenance, and the transfer of trees to forest plots. Our reforestation volunteers will experience the fulfillment of knowing that trees planted during the program will be cared for and nurtured by future Project Costa Rica participants throughout future summers. Along with our reforestation work, we will clean local riversides, clear trash from the rainforest, and learn the importance of environmental restoration. Think globally by acting locally!
- Community Service participants volunteer with the same project for the length of the program, in order to fully understand the impact they are making on the local environment.
- Participants volunteer Monday – Friday, four hours per day, for the duration of the program, earning 60 hours of Community Service credit.
- The goal of Project Costa Rica is not only to give back to the La Fortuna-area community but also for our participants to learn and grow through their experiences.
