Campus Life on Project Hawaii Summer Community Service Porgram

Living on Campus at the
University of Hawaii at Hilo

Campus Life

During the week, the University of Hawaii at Hilo is our home. Dorm rooms are doubles, with a shared private bathroom connecting two rooms. On the weekends, we travel to neighboring islands, where we stay in beautiful beachfront hotels.

The group eats breakfast and dinner together at the University Dining Hall. Lunch is provided at the various service projects. During the travel weekends, we eat 3 meals a day at various restaurants. On occasion we divide into smaller groups allowing teenagers to choose from a greater variety of restaurants.

After volunteering each day, Project Hawaii participants can enjoy the campus sports facilities (Olympic-size swimming pool, gym, tennis, basketball, etc.) and computer labs. In the evenings, enjoy nights at the movies and summer festivals, in addition to authentic Hawaiian cultural activities.

Cultural Immersion

Cultural Immersion
Cultural Immersion activities include lei making, learning the hula, and learning to play authentic Hawaiian instruments. All cultural activities are specially coordinated for Rein Project Hawaii by the Hawaiian EDventure Program at the University of Hawaii. The combination of living in the authentic Hawaiian town of Hilo, interacting with the friendly locals at your service project, and participating in our cultural immersion activities, makes this a truly unique and culturally rewarding experience!
